Overview

Northern Britain boasts a huge variety of breathtaking landscapes, beautiful coastlines, vibrant cities, intimate market towns and villages as well as an array of magnificent historical sites of world importance.

Discover the region’s great cities – the North’s cultural capital Newcastle upon Tyne, the beautiful Romanesque cathedral city of Durham, England’s best preserved medieval city of York or Scotland’s capital Edinburgh.

These great cities play host to some of the greatest surrounding countryside in the country – diverse, breathtaking and, much of it, off the beaten track! Our national parks all offer fantastic variety, from rolling hills in Northumberland, romantic vistas in the English Lake District, hills and valleys in the Yorkshire Dales and the rugged beauty of the North York Moors.

Heritage and culture does certainly not come second within this incredible region: from Roman origins of Hadrian’s Wall, the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, grand houses and estates such as Castle Howard or Cragside, magnificent castles e.g. Alnwick or Bamburgh, the medieval treasures of York Minster or monastic legacies such as Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire or Melrose in the Scottish Borders.
